Activate the learning framework by trying our newest arts integration resource Poem Forest

Here’s an example of how one resource can offer different levels of engagement:

Resource: Poem Forest

Description: This project offers a captivating way to integrate environmental science and poetry

At an introductory level, the Poem Forest toolkit can be used to teach a special one-day poetry session in a classroom. To further the experience, this could be led by a teacher or with a virtual or in-person visit by a poetry teaching artist.

For advanced learning, Poem Forest can be taught across a full grade level with teachers collaborating to design a module using the toolkit. Students would engage in multiple writing workshops. With the help of a local arborist or ranger, students could learn about plants and trees in their community and map them out.

For community-wide impact, students could revise their poems and work with teachers to create a school anthology. They could celebrate the publication of their anthology with a poetry reading. Classes could collaborate with local tree organizations to plant a tree on campus and have a dedication ceremony and reading that parents, local council members, and other community members could attend.
